“Stack Up” November 12th, 2009
Gear up for “Stack Up” 2009!
Each year, the World Sport Stacking Association (WSSA) invites Carrie Downie to participate in the “Stack Up,” which helps contribute to the Guinness Book of World Records. The WSSA holds the Stack Up to see how many people can speed stack in the most locations, on the same day. Last year, it ended up being about 200,000 stackers in over 25 different countries! What an amazing day!
For those of you who don’t know, Speed Stacks are cups that are designed to be stacked in a number of different forms. The students and I spend time learning and practicing each stack. When it comes time for the “Stack Up,” we have races and competitions utilizing the stacks we have learned. It’s a lot of fun!
To some, speed stacking seems silly, and not really physical activity related; however, speed stacks help students with a number of skills you may not even think of. Stacking helps with hand/eye coordination, ambidexterity, speed and concentration, and much more. The kids really enjoy it, and having them teach you how to stack would be a great way to spend some time together!
Many students have inquired about purchasing Speed Stacks. They are no longer available in retail stores, so if you are interested in purchasing the stacks, please let me know so we can place a group order online.
